Fly Fishing Lessons and Classes
Learning how to cast a fly rod can be very frustrating. Let one of our Professional guides/teachers get you started on the right foot. Be it a lesson, class or guide trip we'll have casting like-a-pro in no time. We also offer advanced casting instruction for those looking to advance their skill set or learn new technique.

Casting Lessons
If you are looking to get just a hint of what fly fishing is all about, consider a casting lesson. Animas Valley Anglers offers individual casting lessons and instruction.

Basic One Hour Lesson covers: Basic casting and line control.

Two Hour Lesson covers: Basic casting, roll casting, line control, knots, river safety, gear and basic fly selection.

This is a great way to get a feel for the sport and start you on the path of fly fishing. Casting lessons are also a good idea before you take one of our regional guide trips. However, our guide trips include casting instruction for first-timers and novice anglers.

Casting lessons can be booked year-round. During the busiest times of the guide season (March through October) casting lessons will be available based on guide and instructor availability. Evenings and mornings maybe the only available times

Casting Lessons do not include: customary gratuity for the instructor.

Casting Lessons
If you are looking to advance your fly casting, consider a detailed casting lesson tailored to your own fishing style. Learn advanced casting
techniques for trout fishing, or improve your casting for your next salt water trip. Interested in learning spey or switch casting? No problem a few AVA pros have years of casting under their wading belts.

Two Hour Lesson covers: Casting, roll casting, line control, hauling, line speed and more.

It is no secret ladies are taking the sport by storm. We have a lot of lady guests, so we decided to offer a fun and education package for the gals out there. We are going to offer a two-part class. The first part is a two hour instructional work shop. The second is a 4 hour on water guided work shop. It will be a no pressure guided fly fishing experience with focus on all aspects of the sport.

Two Hour Lesson covers: Basic Casting, roll casting, line control, knots, river safety, basic gear and an introduction to basic fly selection.

Dates have not yet been determined. We will have a plan in the next couple weeks (today is Feb 5th). If you or a group of lady friends are interested please drop us a line for more info.

Ladies 201 On Water Work Shop
This is the perfect outing for a group of gals looking to advance their knowledge of the sport. It will be a relaxed and safe experience that will focus on ways to improve casting, as well as work on reading water, fly choice, fly presentation and how to hook, play and land trout.

In this class one, two or three gals will be paired with an AVA guide/instructor. We will keep the maximum group number to 9 ladies. This will ensure each student is getting plenty of hands on instruction.

We will include all the gear as part of the work shop. This will include rod/reel, waders and boots as well as flies and other tackle to make the trip possible. So, there is no pressure to go out and buy gear, we'll have it all.
