Spring Fly Fishing Report

Animas River Report: 3-19-08 to 4-15-08
Active Guides: Will and Chris
Flows: 360 to 900 cfs. Animas has been up and down. Water: varies from clear/green, to stained and muddy. Water Temps: cold
Weather: Mornings are cool with temps 29-40 F, afternoons 58-70 F with sun, some clouds and at times gusty winds.
Insects: Some midges and BWOs. More and more BWOs should show in the next few weeks. Caddis in June!

The Animas has been fishing well near Durango. However, as temps warm the river will muddy. The trout are in good shape and feisty. It is going to be another great year on the Animas.

San Juan NM River Report: 3-21-08 to 4-15-08| NEW INFO (4-8-08) flow forecast
Active Guides: Will, Chris, Rick, Tim, Marc
Flows: 4000 to 2200 cfs. Water: green/stained. Water Temp: cold
Weather: Mornings cool 33-40 F, Afternoons warming to 50-72F. Typical spring; sun, clouds and some afternoon wind.
Insects: Some midges and BWOs. Mostly junk patterns like worms, eggs and leeches.

The San Juan should start to clear over the next couple weeks. Do not listen to those that are spooked by high water and bad mouth increased flows. The Juan is a lot of fun to fish when the flows are up. Minimal wade traffic and strong trout make this a great spring time fishery (year-round fishery for that matter).

Rio Grande near Creede: 4-14-08
Active Guides: Chris. Will, Chris and Tim next week.
Flows: 500-850 cfs and climbing slowly. Water: green with slight stain.
Water temp: cold and warming. Weather: Spring time; snow, sun, clowds and wind.
Insects: Not many, some BWOs. Streamers and poppers!

Rio fished well for Chris and his guests a few days ago. This window of fishing opportunity will last a couple weeks. Book a Rio trip today for great spring streamer fishing. June and July is dry fly season with the welcomed return of salmon flies, stones, drakes, caddis, hoppers and PMDs. We have added additional guide availability from June 23rd to July 3rd. Give us a shout to grab a couple days.

Root Pond-Trophy Trout Lake: 4-12-08
Active Guides: Will, Tim and Chris
Water: green/clear
Water temp: cool and warming.
Insects: Some midges and cali baetis. Streamers are key. Root is fishing well, for those that know this fishery, enough said. The rest of you need to experience it.
