salt water fly fishing...bonefish, tarpon, permit

Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca
are located on the Yucatan Peninsula south of Cancun Mexico. Each is situated right on the water and they are about 15 minutes apart, each in their own separate bays. The only way into these remote lodges is by chartered plane to the private air strip. The lodges are surrounded by Sian Ka'an, a biosphere reserve that is free of development, resorts, towns and other lodges. Both lodges offer the best in saltwater fly fishing and endless eco-tourism adventures.

Casa Blanca
is located just north of Playa Blanca and is geared toward the more hard-core angler. Casa Blanca sits on the tip of a narrow coastal island on the southern edge of Ascension Bay. This lodge has a rich history and is known as one of the best saltwater destinations in the world and has set the bar for lodges throughout the Caribbean. The guides, staff, food, accommodations and fish are all top notch.

Playa Blanca
is perfect for groups, couples and families. Playa Blanca is the sister lodge to Casa Blanca and is located 10 minutes south of its sibling on a beautiful beach in Espiritu Santo Bay. Belize is just a fly cast to the south. The fishing covers different water than that of Casa Blanca and is quickly becoming known for its virgin flats and lagoons. Because Playa Blanca is a newer lodge, vast sections of this fishery have yet to be explored making each day on the water just that much more exciting. Many of the hard-core anglers are finding this area very alluring due to the uncharted waters. Non anglers will find the other activities like bird watching, sea kayaking and snorkeling unforgettable.

bonefish

the fish
The "slam" is every anglers dream; a bonefish, permit and tarpon all caught on the same day. At Playa and Casa Blanca this dream can become a reality. Bonefish are not giant, but trophies have been caught over the past few years. So the chance at 14 pound bone is there, but it will take a lot of work. This region boasts the most permit of any tropical destination. The permit are big, averaging around 8 to 20 pounds and can be spotted on the flats pretty much every day. 25 to 40 pounders do lurk about and the sight of one will make your casting arm shake uncontrollably. Tarpon in June and July can top out at 150 pounds! Resident tarpon that travel the flats and live in the lagoons are mostly in the 30 to 50 pound range. A 40 pound tarpon will offer explosive leaps and line ripping runs making for plenty of excitement. While the "big three" are the primary focus, guests also have a chance to catch barracuda, snapper, snook and many other species that make for great sport on a fly rod. All angling is catch and release in order to help preserve this special fishery.

hosted weeks by Animas Valley Anglers
TBD, stay tuned or drop us a line.

What makes this week special? First off, one of your friendly AvA guides will be there with you, and second, it is post hurricane season. This means the fish have not seen a person or fly in a couple months. Fishing tends to be unreal in October thanks to gullible fish and relatively calm and consistent weather.

February and or March 2006 weeks have not been designated yet. Check back soon or drop us a line for more info. If there are other dates you wish to visit the lodge just let us know and we'll set it up. The lodge also has great deals on last minute bookings.
